do you/would you discourage it? We're all ballers here, so everybody is beneath our social class, but hypothetically speaking, if your kid gets involved with someone who's trashy, lazy, or has no ambition to better themselves, do you discourage it, or do you just let nature run its course and hope they figure it out themselves? If the latter, what if they don't figure it out and start to get serious. When do you draw the line, if ever?

Not a situation I'm involved in, but the daughter of some friends is all googly eyed over a boy who's clearly way below her station in life, and I'm curious how the sages of the OT would handle it.

I found sharpening my 6 foot long broadsword was a great way to let him know I didn't like one that started dating one of my daughters. They broke up shortly after. Saved me from using it on him I'm sure.

The more you discourage it, the more they'll pursue it. Just let nature run it's course.

Not much is going to make a difference short of extreme violence and that probably won't work either

I'm not there yet with my kids but I saw it happen with my sister growing up. IMO you can only let it run its course... Or pay the guy off...

She does it to piss you off. Pretend like you like the guy, and she'll dump him.

Talk about how nice he is or how he's a great guy. Which really means he's a pussy in girl code. Women love douche bags and lost causes the more you fight the worse it will be

Breaking out a sword would be a guarantee that the guy still plugs your daughter.

The only difference the sword will make is that he'll make fun of you with his friends later.

Buddy up to the kid. I mean hardcore new besties.

Then, get him and a couple of his buddies to go on an expenses paid weekend trip to Vegas. Bring him to the bunny ranch and snap some photos of him with a hooker.

Cross fingers

If this doesn't work, plant Coke in his car when he's leaving your house (without daughter) and place an anonymous call.

What is wrong with someone dating a poor kid? Unless he behaves like a thug or something, it sounds like you have a fork stuck up your arse

Become the kid's sub parent's; have him over daily and make him start helping you or the wife do shite around your house; maybe even offer to pay him a few bucks for painting something. Make sure every minute he is over, have shite for him to help with. Trust me, this shite is 100%. It will do two things; keep his time occupied and away from her and it will make either or both real tired of this shite in a week or less.

Presumably I've raised my child to be intelligent and self aware. In which case they will catch up on their own and I won't have to intervene.

But frankly, happiness is more important than who I think my child should be dating. This isn't India, I'm not dealing in arranged marriage.

My parents refused to let me date the girl of my dreams. 29 years later, she still is the girl of my dreams. But we are married to others now. :(
