OT Parents- Preschool(Posted by GeauxCJ82 on 10/13/13 at 12:19 pm)
Did you put your kids in preschool? If so, what age? Mine are 3.5, and I want to put them in a morning program 3 days a week. The one place I know has openings is 256 per kid a month. Only 9:15-12:15. A few others I found are cheaper, 3 days a week, and from 9-1. Planning on taking a few tours this week.
There are so many to look at, that it is overwhelming. How did you decide which one to do?
Never put my oldest in any preschool. Straight A's all through school. Full scholarship at Tulane. Graduates in May in Chem E. I regret nothing.
Only reason the second one went to preschool was because she had an absolute FIT when the oldest started kindergarten and went to school. So I put second child in a liberal arts type school that focused on drama and play. Dyslexic but still graduated high school with honors and is at Northwestern State with straight A's.
The last child started daycare/preschool at 3. Graduates high school this year. plans on military not college.
My oldest, 7, went. My 4 and 3 year olds are in now. I think it helps prepare them for sitting still and listening to instructions. It is $150 a month for each kid. Registration was $250 a kid, but includes all supplies and field trips for the year. It is 3hrs a day and 3days a week. We talked to several parents with kids there and at the other 2 or 3 in the area.
Choose a real pre-school and not a glorified babysitter. Here's a tip, any preschool with the word "bear" in it probably sucks. My friend's kids go to Little Gate Uptown. They take both boys and girls up until a certain age. Its an excellent program from what they say. It's part of McGehee. Newcomb also has a great program. Not sure where you are located or what sex the child is, but those are both excellent options as is Sacred Heart for a girl. A good pre-k can really give your child an advantage. They also help with test scores for when child is testing to get into the top privates.
