Last 2-3 nights I haven't slept much due to upper abdominal pain

I'm sure it's some type of acid reflux

What's the best OTC medication that you have used?

Nexium or Prilosec for daily use. Draw back is it takes 2 or 3 days to fully take effect.

Get generic Zantac 150 for faster results.

Keep your head and throat slightly elevated in bed. That will help a bunch.

Pepcid Complete by a mile. Works almost instantly, and doesn't taste like chalk.

This one is to treat heartburn, not prevent it.

Zantac 150 mg.
Zantac is good but get as generic Ranitidine. Zantac/Ranitidine is an H2 blocker, which is not related to any chronic liver problems.

Proton Pump inhibitors (PPI's) are great at preventing reflux but have been linked to chronic kidney issues

PPIs May Increase Risk

I've tried them all. Prevacid is the best.

Two tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar.

For about 10 seconds, while it is kicking the acid's arse, it burns but then life is good.

I have issues with it as well. I need to work on paying attention to my diet more and relying less on meds. These meds seem to increase your chance of having a stroke by more than I'm comfortable with. I have stopped late night snacks for the most part.

Aside from the medicine others have mentioned, not eating a couple of hours before you go to bed helps. Drink lots of water (carbonation can kick it up), lose weight, and start writing down what you eat when you have a heartburn flare up so you know your triggers.

Apple Cider Vinegar pH 3.1 to 5
Stomach Acid pH 1.5 to 3.5

It is entirely conceivable that the apple cider vinegar you are using may be more acidic than your stomach acid.

Curious how 2 tablespoons of acid will neutralize acid?

Teaspoon of baking soda and the pain is gone in less than a minute. Cost about $.2 per dose.

Isn't this what having a heart attack also feels like?

If it's persistent or recurring, look into taking an over the counter Probiotic daily. This will put the "good" bacteria back into your digestive system. (recommended by my Gastrologist).

The lower the PH the worse the acid.
