My parents wouldn't want to be asked "permission" either. They would tell my SO that I am an adult who can make my own decisions and probably also that he waited too long

I took to a secluded beach outside of Santa Cruz for a picnic. I had a bottle of champagne hidden in the bottom of the ice chest...after lunch we took a walk down the beach and up a huge rock, that I discovered previously had a room carved into the front for what I assume was a primitively light house. Once we got up there and checked out the views a bit I got on a knee and asked her. She cried, said yes, and then we went back down and drank the champagne.
