OT Lifters - Do you drop your deadlifts?

First off, I'm not a very experienced lifter and I lift at home instead of a gym. My BIL (who I work out with regularly) and I never drop our deadlifts, and I've had to keep my lifts pretty light because I struggle keeping form on the way down. I talked to my older brother this weekend and he was surprised that we try to put the weight down slowly. He said unless he's deadlifting something very light he almost always drops it. What's the right answer?

How else are you supposed to get attention (besides grunting)?

Hold onto the bar as long as you can. If you have to drop it, drop it.

Don't just free drop, but don't strain to slow it.
If you're fighting it enough to where you're fighting to hold form on the way down, you'll end up fricking your back up sooner than later.

I'm not saying that every set to failure ends with a perfect reset - understand? I'm NOT saying that.
However, unless you are a competitive lifter WITH A COACH - you have zero business lifting or moving any weight you cannot comfortably control all the way through the lift - up and down. That's how you get hurt.

from a former lifter, nothing should ever be dropped. Follow it down is what I always did. it doesn't look douchy but you aren't wasting any energy lowering it slowly. The occasional drop happens when you are going heavy.
Use chalk.
Use chalk.

frick yeah I do...I also maintain eye contact with the biggest pussy in the gym throughout the lift.

And if your gym doesn't allow it - get an eco ball - almost 100% invisible (you shouldn't get kicked out for it).

I drop all my weights, wanna fight about it?!?!

Just guide it down. You don't have to lower it slowly, but if you're not using bumper plates, continuous dropping will cause the little screws on the end of the bar to crack. You won't know it until the bar comes apart mid-lift. That's an interesting experience.

seems to me you are not finished till its back on ground in a deliberate put down motion.
of course unless u r hurt.

Yeah, I drop them. Then I point to myself in the mirror and wink.

Trap bar or straight bar?
I've heard that the trap bar can lead to as many or more injuries. I injured my lower back several years ago so I don't lift heavy deadlift but it always makes me nervous doing deadlift.
