I was a witness to a domestic violence issue last year. I was told my expenses would be taken care of but am I required to go? Would really be a hassle with work right now. I'm new to all of this but can't you do a video conference or something? I've only spoken with the attorney's assistant and she couldn't really say at the time.

TIA

Nah, blow it off. I'll stake my law license and my reputation as a lawyer on it.

Seriously though, you were served the subpoena personally? And it's a criminal trial?

They'll get you to fly across the country only to tell you to come back in a few months because it got continued.

But yeah. You need to go.

I didn't know the person. I assume it would be an open and shut case. A lady banged on my door all beat up and she ran inside my apt. I saw her illegal husband/bf ran away. I called the cops for her and waited until they came.

ETA: This all happened last year. I actually forgot it even happened. They sent the subpoena to my old address in Texas and supposedly had been trying to get a hold of me.

They really should let you do a video conference. That would be so cost efficient.

Can't you just sign something with your statement as to what happened

You don't have to go. You're out of the court's subpoena power.
