I am at the point where I am getting a few interviews. I wanted to ask how you should decide what starting pay you should ask.

I have heard that going strictly by online averages is bad because it could seem like your low-balling yourself. But its the best metric I can find.

Only the really high end ones (top of their class). And then just barely.

Never talk pay on first interview unless interviewer brings it up.

Let them offer then you counter and settle

Its a Masters of Electrical Engineering.

Interested Field: Conductive materials or Electronics

Market: I am looking to stay in the South, Texas and Arkansas are my first picks. But I'm okay with starting off in Louisiana or Mississippi and get experience before moving on.

So should I ask for $75000 for my first position or is that being too ambitious.

You didn't earn those engineering degrees. English majors and gender studies majors were just as much a part of your success as you were.
You will be offered about 60k, and 30k will be distributed back to your university to support the other majors.
Check your academic privilege.
