My son is around that age. I made the mistake of watching a couple of mins of river monsters before he went to bed. It was an episode about anacondas. I awoke to him screaming bloody murder "there's a snake in my bed!". So in my half awaken state Im running to get him away from the snake before I realized what was going on.

He can't help it. His life is sitting there waiting on new posts to be the first response to each one. Sad part is it's always some first thought to pop in head lame response.
In reply to OP...hopefully just a vivid imagination. Course I'm assuming your house wasn't built on a zoo graveyard.

Kids minds are like a sponge so even them catching a quick peek at a friggin Jack Links Beef Jerky Commercial could set them off. Actually happened with one of my cousins. Was funny but he was terrified of that damn Sasquatch. OP needs to pay closer attention to what his son could be absorbing, though there is no way to fully protect them. Maybe try reading him books of bear hunts (child friendly of course) so maybe he can realize a rifle can conquer the bear so it is not soo intimidating.

Yea I'm at the point where we might pull TV. We read a lot and not.much TV as is. At night you can turn the damn channel without it being a zombie eating someone or some fricked up commercial about some horror show. Even just flipping through them. Thanks for the responses

Months are preferred up to about 3 years. Google "pediatric milestones", and you'll find this to be true from multiple reputable sources.
For doctors.... For people after 2 seems a bit much, no need to keep it going til 36 months. You can start using the 2/2.5/3 scale.

My son had some dreams / imaginary fears where he was scared to go to sleep around that age. We did the stufed animal thing. Told him the stuffed dog would stand watch while he slept and wouldnt let anything bother him. No more problems after that.

Its completely normal and he'll get over it soon.
Also, unless you are just bored, don't ask these retards for actual real life advice. I'm sure you have friends with older kids

When I was 532 months old, I ran up on a bear in the woods. It scared me and I called out for my Daddy, and whimpered and moaned most of the night in my nearby tent!
Sounds like normal kid behavior to me. Seriously, just comfort him and teach him and see if it doesn't pass in a few months.

It's a phase. Use it to show he never needs to worry because dad can beat up anything. Kick the crap out of that imaginary bear.
Seeing you swing at the air reinforces that it's not a real bear. My son did this as well then would laugh with joy as I fearlessly destroyed all comers.

My son just turned 2 a few months back and we are seeing similar things from him. Only difference being that its the "monsters" instead of a bear, and he only seems genuinely scared less than 1/4 of the time. Most of the time it's just a game to him and he laughs like crazy while we go into some random room in the house to "see the monsters" or "get the monsters".
He did have his first full-bore, "wake up screaming multiple times" nightmare experience a couple nights ago. That sucked major arse.

Still okay for mother's milk... He's not even 48 months yet!
Seriously OP... I would show him there is nothing to be afraid of with the bear and then tell him if you don't like it, that you can put it away. We had a similar experience with a certain toy and put it in the closet. About a week later, he was asking for it. He was around 3 at the time I think...
My personal thoughts were that he wanted reassurance from us that nothing was wrong and then when we put it away, I guess he missed it. At any rate, never heard the complaints again about it being "scary."
ETA: We went through the night terrors phase for a while... It sucked A LOT! He did eventually get over it, though.

Too bad the old Steinbergs isn't still around. I'm sure he would loved the polar bear.
Looking at your avatar maybe you remember the stuffed polar bear they had up front.
