I thought you owned one of these?

You probably know more about the car than anyone here who doesn't have one sitting in the garage...

Obviously replacement parts are very expensive. I am sure it was totaled for a reason.

Even if you want to track it, it's pretty important that the chassis be square. Or be capable of being pulled back into square. not sure if there is any way of determining that prior to bid but anything can be fixed given enough time and money.

No one here knows how much money you consider "disposable" so it's tough to answer.

Not when they put the damn VIN on the seat frames.

So I hear.

Stop being poor and buy a working car.

Frames like these typically have impact absorption points where they crack on purpose. The frame is probably broken in at least 3-4 places down that side.

Now for your purposes you would t care about that integrity or restoring it. Too costly to buy new frame and rebuild the car, hence the salvage. You would just align it and weld the frick out of the broken absorption joints.

Thanks, Sarge.

That's the kind of info I was looking for.

I know all the Vettes I've owned after 96 have hydro formed frame rails and they are as tough as solid iron, but much lighter.

I saw a cutaway of the F-Type's frame when I bought the one I have now and it looked similar to the Vette in that it looked like one solid piece. My concer would be that the whole thing wou bend and it would be a booger-bear to get it straight enough, even for track use.

Yeah, Andy,I do own one. A 2015 F-Type R.

It is just way too hard on a car to track it on a regular basis, not only the disposable bits, like tires and brakes, but cosmetically, it kills them.

I love driving them and if I could build up this one for something reasonable, it could be a fun deal.

The most important question if it hasn't been asked is how did a 50k plus car get a salvage title with less than 1k miles and seemingly 10-15K in damage?

I could be wrong, it's just what a wrecker driver told me, so don't run to the bank with it

And good luck; it's a beautiful car

Good point.
.

Two reasons, possibly.

One, we are all way underestimating the damage, or two the insurance company just wanted out. Paid the owner 65K, gets 20-24 for the salvage, net loss to them is $40K or so.

If it has a salvage title that means the insurance company deemed it more expensive to fix than it was worth..which tells me you are woefully underestimating the cost of the repair job on that vehicle.

When I wrecked my suburban the dealer said the airbag deployment alone was 8,000-10,000 in damage.

Vette guy isn't going to care about the airbags

Fixing it back to brand-new condition would be way more expensive than what I'm thinking of doing.

You could still be spot on, though.

seems to me, a guy made a living off of marrying 2 broken cars to one fully functional on....porches I think....same principal

ever think of finding one smashed in the right front or rear?

Well, that's an idea.

Don't think I want to get quite that deep though...

It needs a complete front end (suspension and all the attachment points) I'm pretty sure that's why it's totaled.

Wut? They have computers and automation on frame machines now that do all the work for the body shops and they can get it as good as factory. That's not even counting an actual alignment which is even more precise.
