Venus = brightest
Jupiter = 2nd brightest
Mars is really too low on the horizon to see right now.

There are some satellites (GPS) that are pretty damn bright. They are the brightest objects in the sky at night to our eyes. They are to close to view with a powerful telescope, and to far away, about 13 thousand miles, to see a clear image with binoculars. If you can get a point of reference and be very still you can see them move or "wiggle". The machine rotates in a slow spin which causes the reflection of the sunlight to flicker and the change colors, brightening and dimming.

It's too late now, but Earthsky.org does a bitchin preview of the night sky, every day. Tells you what will be out there, be they planets, noteworthy constellations, comets, and so on.

The brightest object in the sky isn't a star it Venus. The brightest star in the sky is Sirius

No, the brightest star in the sky is the Sun. If you're going to be a pedant, do it right.
