Use match or eharmony.
Don't worry about rejection... Either online or meeting someone IRL. It's sort of like speed dating depending on the size of your area. Be persistent and hang in there.

frick your pride. I have been married for 1.5 years to someone I met on an online dating site. If you go into it wanting to hook up, then that is what you will find. If you go into it wanting a more lasting relationship, then you will find that also.
If you are interested in the latter, only chat via the site/app for a couple of weeks after initiating contact. If things are feeling good, move up to e-mails and then texts/phone calls. Then if you still feel something, go on a date.

Beware of the SIF (secret internet fatty). After some practice, you'll be able to spot them easy. It's the ones who used to be skinny and have old pictures that you have to watch out for.

I have a couple maybe unpopular bits of advice.
- Look up dating tips from David D'Angelo. There are douchey pick up artists and there are people with legit advice on how to have more to offer as a mature man. You might not have grown up learning a lot of useful info in the world of social dynamics and self improvement.
- Don't aim so high at first like you want wife material or nothing. Different personalities of different girls, and how you work with them, can teach you a lot. Just hooking up with girls its okay. They do it. Guys obviously do it. Join the party.
- Dating sites are okay. For some personality types, it's easier to break the ice with a keyboard rather than face to face.
- Work on your humor. Make a habit of making yourself laugh. Perceive things around you in funny ways. It will help.

It's 2015. There is no stigma. Actually you can find a lot of woman on there that are attractive and successful, but don't have time for the dating world. They are secure enough in themselves to reach out and have good careers.
If you are that worried about it, just name the place y'all decide to meet up when people ask, "where did y'all meet?" It would be the truth and you don't have to admit to match.com

From my extensive personal experience with online dating, every girl on the free sites has SOME fatal flaw, whether it be has/had cancer, serious emotional issues, daddy issues, STD, sex addict, drug addict, or stripper.
Honestly I wouldn't expect to find lifelong companionship on POF. Just saying.

Match
The difference in quality is shocking. For POF, you're gonna get the fat nasties, trannies, and prostitutes. Lots of fakes also.
OkCupid is a mix of ugly chicks and good looking chicks, but 50% of them seem to have their head on straight. Half are just looking for attention though.
Match is the best. I have known a bunch of girls on it. The highest percentage of good looking girls, and 90% of them aren't losers. Basically the typical girl you'd want to date. Almost all are ready to date someone.
I've slayed poon on all three. OkCupid is the easiest to do that. Been in dates with lots of girls from OkCupid and Match and two from POF. Dated one from OkCupid for a while and one from Match for a while

They didn't even have all the free dating sites that they do now when I was dating online. The few free ones they had back then were not that great. Course that was years ago so they could have gotten better.
I just always figured if you are paying to be on a dating site, you are likely to be more serious about dating. Or at least you were gonna find more that were than were not. Why pay for sites like Match nowadays as a hookup site when those just wanting to hookup can now use Tinder, etc?
