UH, NO. Just like going to a golf tournament or a baseball game and getting hit. You assume a risk when you go.

At a golf tournament of baseball game getting hit with a ball would usually be an accident, I have on many occasions seen riders on floats launch a bag of beads with all the force they could muster at someone they knew was not looking their way.

A dozen pair of beads in a bag. So 24 beads. That's not even one good strand.

Why is someone throwing such a tiny arse bag of beads?

Riders should be more aware of their surroundings when hurling beads. If they're in a family area uptown there is no excuse to be launching a bag of beads. More often than not they will miss their intended target.

People also need to be aware of their surroundings. Like if you're walking down Bourbon late and have a big open drink in your hand, they're is a good chance someone is going to drop a bead from a balcony at it. Don't be shocked and angry when it falls to the ground, just tell the person nice shot!

the bead throwing at the extravaganza saturday was the most violent i've seen, but if you kept your head on a swivel it was an awesome time.

the bigger douchebags are the parade goers that throw back at masked riders IMO.
