I hate taxes but if one business has to collect sales tax and one doesn't that is completely unfair to our local businesses.

Then the local politicians shouldn't be taxing the local merchants.

But, I thought everyone told us low gas prices meant more money in our pockets?

I agree with that but it isn't happening in this reality.

As mentioned before, sales tax is one of the fairest taxes on the planet.

Let's not forget the boiling frog parable. 1% increase at a time fools... They're laughing all the way to the bank.

If we had to have one tax it would be the one I would choose. Saving and investing promoted. Everyone taxed the same.

I can picture the reactions of a bunch of poors in a gas station bitching about a couple extra cents charged to their daily purchases.

That's kind of besides the point. Louisianians are paying higher taxes and getting a worse return by the year. Most folk would be fine with higher taxes if there was good infrastructure, solid schools, functioning police departments, etc.

Not to mention the proposed cuts are a joke, the state is in a $900million shortfall and all we can come up with is a $117 million cut? Everyone in this state is a fiscal conservative until it's time to cut the school they went to, the art museum in their town, TOPS, etc.

I worked at a convenience/grocery store in high school and couldn't believe how many would bitch and get mad at me when the price at the register wasn't the same as the price on the shelf. I'll leave it at that.

Basically people are idiots. George Carlin summed it up best:

“Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.”

Tax on cigs went up again recently. Went up $0.75 last year, and seems to have gone up again this year. One pack two years ago was $3.50. Now, it is around $5/pack at the cheapest place by me. Shell station is right under $7

That isn't what he is talking about. Louisiana has almost as many state workers as Pennsylvania. What state provides better service to its tax payers?

I see Harahan Police, State Troopers, JPSD and East Jefferson Levee Board cops drive in front of work every day for the last 22 years. It is the way government is treated here.
