Yes, Trump definitely falls into this category, along with a lot of other families.

It's behavioral, obviously.

The idea is that old money guys may drive around in a 1990s Mercedes, be polite to people, and decline to flash wealth all of the time. That's not always the case, but that's the example that will be held up.

Whereas new money will have a flashy sports car, act like a douche to everyone, and let everyone know about their new wealth. Of course, that's not always the case either.

In the South especially, old money is often a term that refers more to social status than wealth. Old money frequently means no money, as the sources of wealth have often dried up in a changing economy, and/or have been used up by family leeches.

I was living near Jupiter, FL when Tiger Woods(before his downfall,) built his hideous monstrosity on Jupiter Island, he was considered to be "new money," and was probably the poorest kid on the block

No, I expect they'll always prefer themselves. It's more the view of the middle class. Marveling at the descendants of a great businessman and buying into the story line that new money is somehow inferior.

Nobody looks down on New Money except for (sometimes) Old Money.

And New Money (with some notable exceptions) is the last group of people in the world that gives a shite what Old Money thinks.

By northeastern standards maybe yes. He's granddaddy was scamming people back in the 1800s. Not sure when "old"

Old money people tend to be more refined and cultured, thus more snobby.

Definitely disagree here.

At the very highest levels, maybe.

uh

many people consider old money to be wealth/status accumulated prior to the formation of the US

Trump is certainly nothing close to old money and he was never included in the "old money" club

New money is basically worthless in my eyes. Just as soon be poor. That's why I spend all the new money I get. Not even worth saving it.

Now when I start coming across some old money.....that shite's going straight in the bank.

Lots of old money got wiped out with the bank failures of '28.
That taught lessons that remain in family memory.

If you have a great deal of money and you are unsure if you're old money or not, try joining Augusta National. If you don't get in, you're new money.

Each group has its vices. Old money can be elitist and inept while new can be obnoxiously extravagant.

Both have a tendency to lack basic humility and grace.

It takes discipline to maintain values and then pass them on to your children upon acquiring wealth. Many people forget these things in the pursuit of success and wealth.

Old money has better drugs, alcohol and hookers. Old money doesn't boast about their drugs, alcohol, and hookers. Old money has different attorneys for different types of crime on speed dial.

Old money seldom goes to prison, even when blatantly guilty.
