right and there is a lot of old money, especially in the Northeast that the general public really has no idea about. Only others in old money and politics would really know.

it's as much about class/status as it is about net worth really

I was friends with a guy who was south Carolina old money.

The physical stress society put on him was staggering.

He was like a non racist version of Calvin candy.

RIP my friend.

So is it a whites only golf Club? And I don't say that in any condescending fashion; minorities just don't have the money lineage to that extent, in this country, that Caucasian people do for obvious reasons.

I like new money, less germs and things, but I hate having to fold new bills

The Great Gatsby?

Honestly, just the fact that money is divided into categories (new and old) that are commonly understood on a message board shows how widespread the distinction has become.

From the old money perspective, I think it is elitist, but also hints at a bit of jealousy. They'd never admit it though.

Well, Condi Rice is a member as well as Warren Buffet, who while he is definitely old money is most definitely not Old Money so that guy's premise had some flaws.

No he means like Obama and the Clinton's. Stealing from poor working white's and poor ignorant blacks. Also taking illegal donations from other governments.

Old, because it's easier to roll a J with a soft dollar bill than a new crispy one...

In MY opinion having been around Bocage folks and CCL folks, old money Bocage people are more genuine and have nothing to prove. They act like they've been there and are less judgmental of others. CCL folks, not so much.

BUT, that's just my experience and I'm sure there are other opinions.

In reality, new money should be preferred and honored by society. They are producers who actually built something or had an original idea. They are the hard workers that improve the economy.

That is such a new money attitude.

The advantage of "old money" is the connections that come with the old money. All amounts being equal, this is why they seem to have "more."

New money is dynamic, but SOME new money can be short-lived. Old money has the weight of generational wealth and power in their corner, that won't disappear easily.

We've had cotton and cattle around the south since the 1830's.

It's 2:18pm on a Monday. I'll sit on the Davenport with my bourbon, hang up and listen.
