Why? I agree with you that it needs to be figured out ASAP, but this would be the 1st crash of a 777 in its 20yr history that wasn't pilot error.
It only took one bad crash to kill the Concorde.

Well to give them credit if it did happen, they were some smart MoFo's. Cut off all locating devices, and go to the most remote place on the face off the Earth to commit suicide. Sounds like someone's trying to hide something there...
What I would find interesting, which is probably a dumb question, but what would happen if the plane didn't crash and in fact did land somewhere, and the plane was spotted somewhere. Not specifically in an act of terrorism, but say it was eventually found in a hideout or that the plane was sold on the black market.. What would happen if the plane was found at a later date still intact?

The Concorde was a financial dog so that crash just gave them an out.

This plane was shot down. I've always felt the plane never went the 7 hours as stated by Malaysia's government. I believe this entire story has been made up.

I got this from the article in Wired that was written by a pilot. LINK So at you for being a know it all jerk.
Oh, so I guess my former job as Manager of Flight Ops for Europe and Asia at Delta means nothing in the shining light of that article written by another pilot. Wanna keep going, hero?

The Concorde was well on its way out before that crash. The crash was just the nail in the coffin. Bad choice of words, but yeah.

I feel like this was just a press conference to announce tomorrows press conference when they will have actual details.

The Concorde was losing money by the bucketsfull, wasn't it? The crash was, like you said, just an "out" to quit using it.

I believe so too. I think the only reason they actually did a search was to confirm. They knew it crashed all along, but just wanted to be certain. After a ridiculous amount of money was spent, all the countries had a group vote to withdraw before throwing too much money down the drain.

Well, if you want to crash the plane where you don't want it to be found...this would be the perfect spot.
If they were just trying to commit suicide, why would they care??

They were old, too. A lot of fatigue on those airframes.

It appears that way. But it is still Malaysia talking.
The Malaysian authorities didn't arrive at this conclusion on their own.

This evening I was briefed by representatives from the UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB). They informed me that Inmarsat, the UK company that provided the satellite data which indicated the northern and southern corridors, has been performing further calculations on the data. Using a type of analysis never before used in an investigation of this sort, they have been able to shed more light on MH370's flight path. Based on their new analysis, Inmarsat and the AAIB have concluded that MH370 flew along the southern corridor, and that its last position was in the middle of the Indian Ocean, west of Perth.

The cover up is that the plane landed at Diego Garcia. This statement the ,Malaysian PM just gave was BS. They havent even found the black boxes or any sort of difinitive wreckage of MH370 but he is going off a "company", who he didnt even name as the source for the plane being lost. Malaysia owns the airlines, dont you want your own people to confirm the loss of your own plane?

So what do you guys think they will do to prevent another event like this? Is there really anything they can do?

I've wondered about this. If it had in fact been shot down, nobody would want to admit it and they probably would do whatever necessary to cover it up.

makes me think once again, pilot suicide and the USA used technology they dont want to divulge as they were by far the first to even suggest southern Indian Ocean...
Yeah the massive radar station in Australia has a much longer range than they reported.
That is what I think based on info that came out last week.

Given that we have no idea at all what happened, where the plane it, what caused it to crash (if it did crash)... the only thing they can to do prevent this from happening again is to stop flying altogether.
