Because they were telling everyone there wouldn’t be beds left in the hospital and the healthcare system would be stretched to it’s absolute limit needing every doctor and nurse to treat Covid patients 24/7
Oh yea that’s it. Now I remember
Well regardless, OP elective should have been allowed. Come in, get your hip fixed, leave without being admitted

Yes it absolutely should have been allowed and should be allowed now

Again; they were fear mongering like lunatics telling people there weren’t enough doctors in America to treat this virus.
The fear mongering and authoritarian power grabs and Facebook ignorant melts imploded the hospital system and tanked the economy for no fricking reason and now that that’s becoming more and more apparent instead of seeing the problems and addressing them they are doubling down on it all.
America has been living so well for so long we manufactured our own crisis to force hard times.
This entire situation is the living embodiment of this quote:
quote:
Did you know that the first Matrix was designed to be a perfect human world? Where none suffered, where everyone would be happy. It was a disaster. No one would accept the program. Entire crops were lost. Some believed we lacked the programming language to describe your perfect world. But I believe that, as a species, human beings define their reality through suffering and misery. The perfect world was a dream that your primitive cerebrum kept trying to wake up from.

I don’t really understand how that wasn’t noted in the initial quarantine rules
Because they needed all available resources to fight covid-19, otherwise they’d be overrun. Haven’t you been paying attention?
Surgery scheduled to remove a tumor? frick you, that’s not covid-19 so it’s not important.

If they would just allow OP elective surgeries they would have been fine
You have to remember part of the reason for stopping elective cases was also to conserve hospital PPE.

Alleviate tax burden on a nonprofit.....nonprofits do not pay income tax.
I think this is more about cash flow and them using this opportunity to clean up the accrued deferred compensation (use up accrued PTO) to help save some costs (once again, back to cash flow).

They can recoup that with a couple of transplants.

they mailed a letter to my Grandpa asking for donations to help support their out of work employees, he’s just a patient in their system, has never given them more than a copay

$11M from what I've been told by my sources who work in payroll.

At what point of laying of nurses and closing medical facilities do we decide we are destroying the nations healthcare system?
See: the economy vs covid19

Willis Knighton in Shreveport Bossier has eliminated any ot pay and has begun reducing hours for nurses. Floors are empty from no elective surgeries and other procedures not being done. There is no hospital overload crisis. Open it back up!

I rally hope I am still alive in 20-30 years so I can see how history remembers the last two months

Darwin smiles. Any hospital that can find a way to lose money in the middle of a health crisis deserves to fail. Ochsners managment obviously sucks, CEO should be fired.
You are too stupid to insult. No hospitals are making money right now.

How about they declare bankruptcy like every other small business. Hospitals fail all the time. F Ochsner, big fish in a small pond. More Hospitals need to go under. This just shows the hospital market is over saturated. Darwin smiles. Any hospital that can find a way to lose money in the middle of a health crisis deserves to fail. You might be one of the dumbest posters in this board. Seriously. That’s damn impressive

I can’t hate on Ochsner, that company is one of the biggest donors across the board in this entire state. They give back more than any other corporation not named Gayle Benson.

Well the problem is that at the time...what else could they do?
They know they have a huge potential for a shortage of PPE, beds, etc. They see what is going on in Italy and realize the threat is certainly there. So they have to make hard decisions on educated guesses because that is all they had. No one can truly know how bad it will get.
It's like a hurricane is coming and just trying to do what you can to prepare as best as possible.
For those that aren't getting hit as hard as they anticipated then maybe they can resume operations as usual in the hospital.

Friend that works at BRG said he just got a $650 bonus deposited yesterday.

Now seems like a golden opportunity to strong arm some accountability in hospital pricing.

True. All of Ochsner's tax return info is available on the internet because they are a "not for profit"
The amount Warner makes is disgusting. 3 million a year with a $500,000 bonus that he gets EVERY year.
The fact that Ochsner is famous for working every single department under staffed and they constantly poor mouth everyone makes it more disgusting. Not one nurse or tech at Ochsner gets a bonus at the end of the year, yet he gets $500,000 routinely!
In tough "covid" times, I wonder if this douche will donate his salary? He's certainly not hurting as he has been making millions for the past 10 years. Just another carpetbagger who moved from up North (Boston) to cash in on the poor folk of Louisiana.
