Took the kids to the beach today. The amount of morbidly obese children is staggering. I'm talking kids as young as 4.

You're responsible for your kids health until they are 18. You control what they eat and whether they play outside or on iPads. If you've got a fat kid it's 100% on your shoulders.

But did they have sun block on? No one likes a fat crisp kid.

Kids dont play outside anymore

I never see kids out riding bikes or playing football in the street or whatever

When I was a kid. I was always outside. In the summer I'd go outside in the morning and not come back until dinner time. We would ride bikes, build bike jumps, play tackle football with no pads, go hike in the park, explore the forest, walk through the canals, etc.

Now its all, sit inside all day and play video games and play on tablets.

My wife's cousin's kids are like this. I'm shocked they don't have diabetes. frickers walk around with a sippy cup full of chocolate milk 24/7.

My neighbors kids all day play outside. They are constantly throwing a football, shooting hoops, or building dirt jumps in the vacant lot. And none of them are fat.

It's all in the parenting. Some people suck at it.

They aren't fat...they're marbled.

I have...a modest proposal.

People don't like to use the word "epidemic", but the childhood obesity issue is an actual epidemic.

It is fricking disgusting.

You're completely correct. It's honestly very sad the state that some of these kids are and the numerous physical and mental health problems that will come along with it. Type 2 diabetes used to be unheard in kids and now thousands are diagnosed every year. I don't know what can reverse this but it's very discouraging.

Yep. The next generation is fricked. We have a 4-month old and I'll be damned if she fights with weight issues. I was overweight as a child and ballooned up to 225 in undergrad. I am now at 165 and never ever want my daughter to have to fight the battle I had to fight due to my parents eating habits when I was younger.

The kids in my neighborhood, including mine, are outside constantly. But I've drove through neighborhoods, on sunny Saturday afternoons, and not a child in sight. A lot of it is laziness and video games, but some of the local ordinances are ridiculous. I've lived in areas where kids under 13 aren't allowed to play outside unattended or you'll have a case file opened at CPS.

You'll be happy to know that there are 4 kids 10 and under down the street from me and they've been playing outside all day today and not a one of them is even chunky.

In the 1980's with the addition of cheaper microwaves, both parents working full time, credit extended to enslave people (who used the credit cards to eat out), and the introduction of home gaming systems leading to less people going outside, and pharmaceutical companies coming out with more and more medications to keep you sick but alive and working,we are now several generations deep into people who have no clue why they should live healthy lifestyles.
