What time of year are you going?
I'd say LA just to experience something new but I love NYC and miss the autumn colors of the NorthEast

Go to San Diego if you are looking for something new. Otherwise stick with NY.

I'm sure it's just a matter of personal preference, but I'd go back to NYC every time you gave me that choice. LA is nothing special at all.

NYC...LA kinda sucks
If you go to CA, go to San Diego or San Francisco.

I'd go back to NYC.
Now if you can fly to LA then maybe go to Santa Barbara and enjoy central coast wine country, I'd do that.

I've been to both and LA is nothing special. Too spread out. I've been to NYC twice and am always looking for an excuse to go back.
