Well because it's night time. And I see a snake. And id much rather a dead snake than a live one. Next time I get one I'll trap it for you in an Amazon box and let you come check it out and decide what to do with it from there ?

this wolf spider is a relatively beneficial one, yes? But it too met its death in my backyard. Much the same way mr snake met my shovel tonight.

We always hear of king snakes killing other snakes, but a last year I actually saw a king snake kill a copperhead. The king snake coiled around that copperhead like a python for about 10 minutes and that was it... bad snake dead. Didn't eat him though, just slithered off.

This one was on my porch the other day... My 12yr son grabbed it and let it go on the wood pile in the backyard
