Vodka martini is the new standard martini, for sure. When someone ordered "a martini" at the casino, they almost always meant vodka.

Gin seems to be mostly people 50+. I love gin though

Jones' best friend drinks exactly that. He's not gay.

Kermit usually plays at the Little Gem on Saturday nights.

Love to sit at the bar grazing on good food, listening to Kermit and watching the tourist line up and waiting to get into Walk Ons. Amazing the difference you can have in 25 feet or so.

Why do you keep going back?

I ate there once. The canned artichoke bottom on a dish I ordered after being assured they use only fresh artichokes was a turnoff as was the service. I should probably give it another shot, but so many places to go.....I didnt' think the oysters were as great as touted either. They weren't bad, just not great. I was probably expecting more with all the raving going on at the time. One person with me had a rosemary chicken dish that he loved. I tasted it and I'm not a chicken fan, but the sauce/drippings were excellent.

Forgot about that, but it is amazing. Took me two days to see everything though

I'd also add to get a legit king cake from Randazzo's, etc

Take a ride on the ferry to Algiers Point. Cost 2 bucks and you get to ride a boat on the Mighty Mississippi.

I have to just add in about this “non touristy” stuff debate.
First of all OP, you did good by asking for some restaurant advice stuff on the food and drink board. That board is great and you can get great bar and music suggestions within that thread too.

Of course everyone needs to do some of the touristy stuff while in N.O. It just can’t be that your whole trip revolves around Bourbon Street and average restaurants and overpriced shitty bars. I know way too many people who come to town for a few days, eat at the likes of Deanies or some other fried seafood place, get drunk and then hungover on sugar drinks, and then go home thinking that they’ve now visited N.O. and think it’s nothing special. And I never understood the desire to want to come to town with no reservations and be stuck standing in lines at touristy restaurants.

Def. do the shopping on Magazine, music on Frenchman street, a restaurant in the Bywater, a few places in the warehouse district, and ride the St. Charles street car line for a stop or two and some uptown bars.

Hell, even an evening on Oak Street eating at Jacques-Imos, watching Frenchy paint, then catching Re-birth at the Maple Leaf is somewhat touristy, but it makes for a good time.
