Thanks, NOLA City Council

quote:

There should eventually be just one strip club on each block Bourbon Street, and the city has to crack down on illegal activities inside such as drug dealing and prostitution. The City Planning Commission staff calls for these measures in a study of New Orleans' adult live performance venues released Thursday (June 23), but it says any reduction in the number of clubs should occur by attrition and not forced closures. The planning staff conducted its study at the request of the City Council. Its members recently placed a temporary moratorium on new strip clubs and prohibited them from hiring employees younger than 21 as nude or partially nude dancers.

There are currently 23 adult live performance venues in New Orleans, including 19 in the French Quarter. Fourteen of the French Quarter clubs fall within the Vieux Carré Entertainment District, where the planning staff recommends the City Council set a limit of one club on either side of the street on the seven blocks of the district within Bourbon Street. In the near term, the study suggests the City Council place the ceiling on Vieux Carré strip clubs at 14 – essentially making the moratorium permanent. Existing clubs would either close over time or be shut down for city code violations or breaking criminal law.

The four strip clubs operating outside the French Quarter are doing so as a nonconforming use, meaning their property is not zoned for an adult live performance venue. The planning staff also recommends closing these businesses, by attrition rather than council action.

Stiletto's should be the first to go.

I know Visions. What are the other three outside the quarter?

Even though I haven't been to a strip club in at least 10 years, I hate these fricking hags on this council.

One on each block? right now they are pretty much confined within two blocks and the only other strip clubs in city limits I know of are in the East.

This makes no sense.

New Orleans definitely needs 12 more t-shirt shops.

Well, that number isn't arbitrary or anything.

I hope they put a limit to 50 grocery stores, 300 nail salons, and we only need a few bars because drinking is bad.

A planned economy, what could go wrong?

there are two on Dowman in the east. Visions and that place across the street from it. Next to the appliance parts store. IIRC there is one on Chef as well, in a strip mall.

I know Metairie had one on Causeway, and one behind the Wendy's near power. The two in Fat city closed down.

The only positive of this plan is that the A & B teams from each of the current strips clubs will be realigned to the A, B, & C teams of the remaining 7.

All the horrific looking strippers will then become full time pink sheet hookers.

Or... hear me out... charge a one cent tax per person coming in and fix literally every single road in New Orleans.

In all, five French Quarter strip clubs and bars have had their alcohol permits temporarily pulled as a result of a month-long, multi-agency undercover sting.

Seven additional clubs and bars might also face emergency suspensions of their alcohol permits, ATC Commissioner Troy Hebert said.

The following venues' permits were suspended on the following violations: *
Centerfolds Fais Deaux Deaux, 411 Bourbon St., on five counts of prostitution, three drug violations and two counts of lewd/improper acts *

Lipstixx/Fais Deaux Deaux, 420 Bourbon St., on three counts of prostitution, three drug-related violations and three counts of lewd/improper acts *

The Mansion on Bourbon, 416 Bourbon St. on six counts of prostitution, two drug-related violations and five counts of lewd/improper acts *

Chez Joey, 608 Iberville St., on three counts of prostitution, five drug-related violations and two counts of lewd/improper acts *

Dixie Divas, 606 Iberville St., on four counts of prostitution, three drug-related violations and one count of lewd/improper acts

quote:

The investigation started, Edmonson said, based on tips forwarded to state police from New Orleans Police Department's Eighth District. Many of the information NOPD gathered came from other law-abiding Bourbon Street area club owners and workers.
