Just got engaged... I'll pause for some berating... and we're looking to get hitched somewhere in New Orleans. We aren't religious so there won't be a church involved. Just going to have a ceremony and reception in the same place.

If any of you guys could provide some experience with venues there and costs associated I'd appreciate it.

We're looking at having around 200 guests. As far as budget goes, I think 15k is a number we're trying to stay below. As someone who knows jack shite about wedding costs, that figure may or may not suffice, but that's why I'm here asking. Thanks.

Why would you want to put your family and friends in such danger?

Sister's wedding at Popp Fountain in city park was pretty legit. Reception in the building right behind the fountain too.

May be a little more than your budget, but the Audubon Tea Room is nice. Food they provide has always been good in my experience though.

You won't get away with a 200 person wedding for 15k.
I just got married in Jackson square.
We had 30 people there.
Wedding was $4k (hotel rooms, 2nd line, "rehearsal" at Katie's, "reception" at Red Fish, photographer, suit, dress, etc.

Is this figure for the reception only?

Or does this include the dress, flowers, photographer, and the reception?

I should clarify, that figure is for ceremony and reception. Doesn't account for photographer or dress. My side is covering rehearsal and flowers.

Well that's good to know. That's why I'm here . I'm also going to do my best to make cuts to that list. Also why we're doing it further from home. I'm trying to get less people to go to cut costs. Gonna make people RSVP. Even though it's not my money, I don't like the idea of dropping buckets of money on something like this. But happy wife, happy life so her and her mother can figure that out.

Don't do a second line. It's often cringe worthy. Seeing a sea of white people that have only been to Nola for bourbon street try and buck jump or shuffle step in the quarter or cbd for that matter, just doesn't fit.

I already suggested chick-fil-a food and got shot down. I said babe who doesn't love nuggets and waffle fries!? She wasn't amused. We all know the chicken drummettes are the first to get destroyed at weddings

JW Marriott has a nice ball room

The art museum (in city park, i think) does a good job

My cousin's reception was at the Audubon Tea Room. That was nice.

Wrong. If you want the full New Orleans experience, you have to do a second line... The kicker to making sure it "fits" though is at least two bridesmaids and one of the mothers have to be raped and murdered on the route.

I thought about planning a mock mugging or something to keep things interesting, but we'll probably just have a couple real ones take place so not a problem.
