yea no chance

Passenger trains need to travel between 69 and 78 miles per hour. The Bonne Carre spillway, alone, would need around $62 million of improvements to make those types of speeds possible.

Screw that. I can get in my car and do 80 the entire way. Plus I don't have to mess with waiting for a train at either end and have transportation with me when I arrive.

This bird brain idea seems to pop up every 6 months or so. The population of each city does not make it feasible.
It's too expensive to operate.
The BR crowd wouldn't know what to do if they didn't have a SUV to hop into parked 25 feet from where the train depot is located.

Idk, but if there was a stop at MSY and the Loyola street street car line, I'd ride it all the time.

The KCS owns the tracks and I doubt they would be interested in passenger trains. But if it happens they could let CATS run it.

I'd love for something like this to happen but this is true. Never mind that the scum we have around here would ruin the damn thing.

Have they ever come up with estimated time it would take to go from downtown BR(assuming that is the last stop) and downtown NOLA?

Nah, it would really need to travel two to three times that.

The cost is quite a bit, but I think it could pay for itself when you factor in the economic benefits something like this could bring to the table.

One real problem lies in BR's mass transit system. If I get off the train in New Orleans, there are cabs, buses, and streetcars that can take me anywhere in the city in a decent time frame. If I get off the train in Baton Rouge at the proposed Government Street station, where the hell am I going to go and how? shite, it's easy to build a track between here and BR. It's harder to make a system as broken as CATS work properly.

Entire cities have been built around reliable commuter rail service in places like Chicago, New York and Philadelphia. Linking New Orleans and Baton Rouge and making them one job market would have enormous economic implications for South Louisiana. Too bad our government officials (that means you Booby Jingles) think so small.

being able to hop on a train to New Orleans for Mardi Gras/Jazzfest/Voodoo Fest/Saints game/whatever and get drunk and not have to worry about parking or driving back would be sweet

I wish the cities were just a little closer together, like Dallas and Ft Worth.

This idea is not ready yet, but being about to use the internet instead of driving makes the whole idea worthwhile.

Good point, although I don't think your problem would be getting a cab at the government station. It is likely cabs would adapt and camp out there because of the obvious demand.

The issue would be when you took a cab to a different part of the city and would have to wait an hour for another to pick you up

These trains(and cities using your logic) were built when traveling by car was less economical and didn't make as much practicable sense.

I'd love it and use it but it's just not feasible.. Sucks but we just aren't a dense enough populace to make such infrastructure needs possible

They should just go ahead and put one station in the 9th ward and the other station near Cortana.
