WWL seems to be a lot like Espn they think they can do no wrong and if you don tow the company line they run you off.

I remember when WTIX and WNOE were the stations to listen to!!!!
Yes. And while I was a WNOE guy mostly (CC Courtney, Lou Kirby, Capt. Humble), I liked 'TIX too. It was a matter of degree of preference, like DIXIE beer versus JAX. Which was better?

FWIW, the article was there at one point (see top story in this link), however is now removed.

Additionally, on Kaare's show on Friday; the 2nd caller asks him about the article and Kaare says (paraphrasing) that the person who wrote the article should have checked with some more sources before reporting that.

So you never know

re: NOLA Radio Station 690am is being sold
I just saw on NOLA.com that the sales price was $200,000k, which was shockingly low to me.

I once involved with an AM latino radio station that fell into receivership in the early 2000s in a small market (amarillo, TX). The station went into 100% rebroadcast mode with no advertising revenue for 6 months and antiquated equipment. The receiver was able to sell the station for $2million. He said the license and antenna were worth that much.

saw that too which was a surprise

looks like the new owner has to rebuild the tower(s) which may be why the price is so low

but since the economy tanked AM stations went to shit

I know for a fact that before Katrina they had a offer of 3 million for 690.....guess they shoulda sold it back then

eta: fwiw sounds like the current sports format stays till end of the year

bump

anybody know what's going on with this and when they are supposedly switching over to religious talk? I'm still getting my daily dose of Gus and Larry and my afternoon drive-time talk with my man Kaare.

You serious Clark? How in the frick would religious get more listeners than sports talk? Unbelievable.

No overhead of on air personalities and they don't have to go out and find advertising. The bible beaters come to them and buy blocks of air time. There are lots of suckers out there who listen to their bullshite, and it's a gold mine for all concerned.

Kaare is terrible, but the steve zaban and tim brando shows are good. Even the sports hangover is decent.

What time does Kaaaaaaare come on these days?

I haven't heard him in several years. Every now and again, I could use a fix of Assclown.

Yeah. He left to go full time with the TP. Scott Alexander took over for him. The show is still the best local sports show in NOLA, but it's not as good as it was. Mostly because of Gus.

When this report first came out Kaare downplayed it. Any changes weren't supposed to happen until January anyway, if they happened at all. There hasn't been any news about it since. I'm skeptical that the station was sold.

Ah, that sheds a little light. Thanks for the info.

Sports Hangover is certainly the best local sports show .. at least back when I was a regular listener.

He's at his worst right now. National politics. I'm willfully uninformed on a lot that shit, and he makes me look like James Carville. He's so damned ignorant.

So it appears Joe Cardosi is doing stand-up comedy at Nirvana. Intredasting.

This. He is annoying and whiney. If he could suck his own pecker on the air for most of his show, he probably would. Lord knows he spends half the show as it is patting his back with both hands while trying to pretend he is some kind of on air rebel.

Joe has been doing standup for awhile.

He left 690 to get a better production job with the Hornets.
