Only in NOLA...god that place is the gift that keeps on giving when it comes to utter incompetence.

Even though the work was presumably subbed out to a road and street contractor, you would think that someone from the city would at least be out monitoring the project incrementally as it was going along or at the very least as the contractor was wrapping up that part of the project to see if anything was amiss.

I'll take: Kind of important to have storm drains not covered up by asphalt for $1,000 Alex

NOLA.com

quote:

Several storm drains along Uptown streets were paved over during construction of major federal drainage projects, leaving city officials scrambling to cast blame and discover who must clean them up

I don't care who you are or what you look like. If you currently work for the City or New Orleans, you are completely incompetent.

From the company subbed out to treat for termites, all the way up to Mitch the Bitch, and everyone in between is chock full of the dumb arse.

This is a key part of the article that you left out for some reason

quote:

The administration isn’t sure at this point whether the corps or the city is on the hook to clear the drains. Interim Public Works Director Dani Galloway said she is looking for any documentation that her predecessor, Mark Jernigan, had signed off on the street work done by the corps’ contractors. If she finds it, then it becomes the city’s responsibility to fix the drains under its arrangement with the corps over SELA, she said.

If the city never approved the completed work, then the corps would have to fix them, Galloway said. She described several examples of blocked drains discovered on South Claiborne that the corps must fix before the city approves the end of that project.

I'm sure they're scouring City Hall for proof of their screw up as we speak.
