NOLA City Park - Celebration in the Oaks

Headed to New Orleans in a few weeks to see the Christmas lights at Celebration in the Oaks. First time going.
Is the walking tour/amusement park add-on worth it? How's traffic getting into the park and how long does the drive through last? We have the Thursday Dec 22 7-8pm entry window.
Thanks for your time!

Personally, I would do the walking/amusement park in lieu of the driving tour. All of the rides are included. There’s also free marshmallow roasting and hot chocolate. The walking through the gardens are beautiful. Also, try to go on a weekday or Sunday night. Friday and Saturday night is a madhouse.

You have the most popular arrival time and if it's on the weekend right before Christmas you might have a decent wait. 30-45 minutes?

we did the walking tour the other day with the rides. It's pricy, but worth it. almost no lines, kids had a blast.

You've come to the right place...
Do you have kids, they might enjoy the rides..

I just took the family Sunday. We did the driving tour then went in to do the walking tour and rides. It wasn't particularly crowded but the closer to Christmas the more crowded it gets.
• My son loves the rides so that part was definitely worth it to us.
• Our traffic wasn't terrible but it will back up down Wisner when it's busy. The driving tour itself takes about 20-30 minutes once you get in the gates.
• Walking tour can be however long you want it to be. We walking around for about an hour before heading to the rides.
• It wasn't busy and we spent a lot time by the rides and in Storyland. The process of getting kids on/off, safety checks, etc., just takes forever. The Ferris wheel at up almost 45 minutes of time. The carousel line was slow. The area around the marshmallow roast was a little crowded by easily manageable.
• If you want to ride the train go do that as soon as you get in that area then do the rides.
All of this will just get worse the busier it gets.
eta: Since you're going Thursday you shouldn't have crowd issues. It will be more crowded than you think it will be but it won't be weekend busy. Look to spend every bit of 3-hours there.

The amusement park and story land and stuff is great. If you do the Saturday of Christmas week, it’s going to be very crowded

Last year we went to the one in Gulfport. It was really nice. And super safe. I may never go back to the shithole to see Christmas in the Oaks. I rather come home safe with my family and make that hour or so drive. I highly recommend it.

1000s of people are killed daily at Christmas in the oaks. Thank you for your service.

Gulfport is undoubtedly safer. And it was a really really nice setup. That’s all I’m saying.

Good contribution to a fricking thread specifically asking about Christmas in the Oaks.
Some of you are entirely too ate up with all things New Orleans. Get a grip.

We have done it in the past. The key for us has been, buying tickets online ahead of time, getting there an hour to an hour and a half before dark, riding the train first, and getting out before it gets packed late in the evening.
Getting there before dark has always helped us avoid most of the traffic and find parking closer to the entrance/exit.

If you have kids its definitely worth it...probably worth it for a couple with the smores and hot chocolate. Although the hot chocolate might make you sweat
We did it last year and had a blast...going to Santa's Wonderland in College Station this year.
