I’ve had to run and catch others tumbling canopies and flying umbrellas. At the end of the day, people need to just learn how to anchor their stuff properly.

Just got back from 30a and one family set theirs up every day. Saw them in old Seagrove and on Grayton.
We were in Seagrove last week too- on the beach right next the Eastern Lake outfall.
ETA Saw lots of canopies, but we just used our own two umbrellas.

Should be easy enough for him to do.

What's all the canopy talk? Can we please call them tents (or pop-up tents)?
From my previous post, right before yours (you were probably typing the same time I was):
Heard people and even public officials in New Orleans and these beach communities refer to them as "tents" (stupid Mitch Landrieu even referred to them as "tents without sides"). That irks me to no end... It's very simple, people: a tent has sides and is used for camping or full shelter. A canopy has no sides, just a roof, and is made for shade or rain protection only.
Kudos to all on this thread for referring to them correctly...

No mention of sides in the dictionary.

I guess you can’t afford to buy a pop up canopy.

You're going to have get out early, the family who set up at Seagrove did it before the umbrella guys got out. They packed it up before dark, and honestly...it wasn't trashy...they weren't trashy. I only saw one there, and they were likely owners. You may have trouble setting up that in front of someone else's house.
Thanks. I have some nice pop-up tents, but it might not be worth the trouble. We will be in Water Color but the house is a little off the beach.

We were in Old Seagrove, the first beach access from Seaside. We like renting on those dirt roads west of 395. We had a great trip.

Why not just pass a mandatory anchor law? Have a service on the beaches that do just that.
Give a ticket for $100 or so if not anchored.
Sand is already there, just rent em two bags and 2 straps..
Problem solved

Kudos to you for being a little bitch. I'l pop a clip in yo arse. Do people still say that or is it Magazine?
For real, You can thank EZ Up brand for the "Tent" label when they first came out. They have since gone to calling their products "Shelters" but "EZ Up Tent" is still a VERY popular Google search.

It was not a public beach. It was a beachfront condo.
Felt like their umbrella rentals were down so banning canopy tents was their reaction. I went and bought two umbrellas that evening and set them up the next day. Felt like if they were really concerned about people getting hurt they would just require that all canopy tents be anchored properly.
Fun fact: saw two people hit by windblown umbrellas over the course of the weekend

Was at the beach two summers ago and met the VP of EZ-UP. I asked him why they don’t put flaps in the peak of the tent so wind can escape keeping the tent from blowing away. He said that every time he sees a tent cartwheeling down the beach he gets a warm feeling in his wallet. He also said people should learn to stake them down and it is their own fault.

I have been noticing that umbrella vendors are becoming much more aggressive in the last few years about people bring their own shade items. It doesn’t surprise me that they have gotten together to whine loudly at council meetings in order to change the laws and force tourists to rent their crap.
