As a black guy that has had his car vandalized by black kids in NOLA in June 2013(they spray painted gang shite on my car, cost me $2000 to repair it), I can say this:
Kids are brazen these days. The mischievous things we did back in the day are nothing in comparison kt what these kids are doing nowadays. I personally think it's the erosion of the value of life, and that stems from the top down and from the bottom up as well. We, as Americans, don't value our lives like we used to.
Would I call the kids thugs? No because I was a kid once (didn't do these things) but I did stupid shite. As did must of us.
The problem is that these kids have nothing to do in summer time with little parental guidance.

Had a white guy committed this crime, Martin would tell everyone who would listen it was solely because he was gay.

Well, for starters, I would if the kids you described above were beating the shite out of people, and vandalizing property.
Oh, you don't have to be scared to say "white" kids, instead of listing ailments that may describe them. Both groups are thugs. White or black.
