His side has a large family in the area.
Don't agree with a lot of their side, but they seem to give their children a legit shot at not being shitheads.
I guess that's good since her mother doesn't seem to have much to do with her.

It's fricked up that the council has to punish everyone who comes instead of addressing the problem.
Maybe this is the only solution, but it is fricked up they let Latoya mess it up for everyone that comes because they won't address her problem.

Why does the city own an apartment to being with?
The city through the French Market Corp owns the entire complex.
They lease them all out but reserved one for mayoral business / dignitaries for decades.
Before Katrina a family friend used to live in one of the apartments. Was a great place to hang out.

Once she has her bags packed up and her u-haul of stolen treasures and shady deals have slipped away in the middle of the night, the real damage of what she did to the folks of NO will be uncovered. It ought to be a hell of a story.

It’s hilarious he thinks he has a shot. It’s also terrifying that he might.

Hopefully, the apartment management company shares the Judge Smails thought process:

Of course Thomas is going to vote in her favor, he's a convicted criminal.
Not just any convicted criminal. He was convicted for accepting bribes as a City Councilman in his earlier stint. Yet, District E voters (the Ninth Ward and NOLA East) still voted him into the same position in which he admittedly accepted bribes.
I live in New Orleans, and the way New Orleans residents vote defies logic.

While I know a lot on this board don't agree with JP and Moreano, it could actually be worse if they weren't on the council along with Giarrusso.

It's simply ASTONISHING as to how New Orleans 'business' is seemingly mis-managed ! HOW is all that corruption tolerated ? From the cluster that IS the sewer & water board, dozens of different levee jurisdictions, the power issues w/ Entergy, corruption at every turn not to even mention the NOPD gargantuan problems...WHY can't the state at least attempt to correct these PUBLIC issues ?

What exactly do you want the state to do?

That entire block was donated to the city by William Ratcliffe Irby (see: Irby Trust), the block on the other side of Jackson Square was donated to the Office of State Museums (Irby donated the Presbytere and Cabildo to OSM), this all happened back in the 1930s.
If I understand the setup correctly, the rent generated by the apartments (on the 2nd and 3rd floors) as well as the businesses (on the bottom) go to Irby, then Irby distributes those to OSM and the city (Irby may keep some to the board to run things, not sure though).
State Museums also has an apartment (in their building), they use it to house visiting artists and such, as well as when the Lt. Governor is down there for a few days (on State business), since OSM is under that office.
The State side is a shitshow. The upkeep/updating is nonexistent, They jacked the rent up well over the going rates, have businesses on the first floor generating little income, and have two boards overseeing it all, the Irby Board and the LA State Museum board (political appointees.)
It's true they have people lined up to rent, but they are falling apart. Plaster peeling, water damage, plumbing in bad shape. Unfortunately the Stae Museum has no money to update/renovate when they turn them over. They are basically running the Lower Pontalba into the ground.

They have the Lower Pontalba.
The City of NOLA has the Upper Pontalba.
