I feel like new Orleans' identity is not in it's hunting and fishing or oil and gas. It's a good place to live for proximity to those things but most people there aren't involved.

I've lived/worked in both. Can't say I saw that many similarities. I did like downtown Anchorage, tended to avoid the Spenard area.

Spenard seems to be getting a pick me up. Mountainside, Russian Jack are shitholes.

I loved anchorage when I went. LOVED it. I could absolutely see myself living there.

I can't move away from Anc because I work here on base. However, my wife now works for the school district in Eagle River so we are looking at moving out of Anchorage and into Eagle River.

Look at Palmer. Housing is far less expensive and it has a good vibe, some beautiful surroundings. I found housing to be far less expensive in the valley and Palmer is only about a 30 minute commute to the bases.

Eskimos are two unique groups that live on the North Slope, N.W. Arctic and YK Delta. Interior natives are Athabaskan and more related to the Navajo by language.

Anchorage was amazing when I went up there earlier this year. Wish I could go up again, but I don't think I saw that many similarities between the two. I guess if you consider the local alcoholism a similarity, then you have your basis covered

Last time I was in Anchorage they had an establishment called the Alaskan Bush Company. Is it still there?

Yes, I did not mention the crime rates in the OP but they're most certainly comparable.

Yeah I heard that Anchorage has a big gang problem from people running drugs from Mexico and Cali. Is this true?

I'm not sure where the drug problem stems from, but its real.

Even some military get caught up. A guy in my squadron was recently found guilty, discharged, and doing some time for cocaine.

Sad deal really. He was the most likeable guy in the room usually. Just made bad decisions. And guess where he was at the night he got in trouble. Alaska Bush Company.

Yeah. There are two groups of Eskimos, Inupiat and they generally get along well together. Coastal natives which aren't Eskimo (Tlingit, Haida, etc) didn't really get along as well.

Eskimos have short, stocky bodies and small limbs adapted for cold weather environments. They don't particularly care for white people even though they maintain ancestral villages they've been in for centuries. Many come to Anchorage a few times a year to party since a lot of their villages are dry, or damp. 4th Ave. in Anchorage is where they tend to congregate when in that town, I avoid it when I'm there.

I have a really hard time telling the difference between some of the natives and Filipinos.

Oh, yeah. I was more a Crazy Horse guy myself when I went to those kind of clubs in Anchorage.
