After being here for a little over a year I must admit that despite the polar opposite climates, Anchorage and Nawlins have a lot in common.

-While the food in N.O. beats anywhere I've ever been, both cities are known for their seafood.
-Both are widely known for their outdoor activities. Primarily hunting and fishing.
-Both areas are big in the Oil Industry. In La, guys go make a living in the gulf. In AK, they go make a living working on the slopes.

Despite living in La for the first 27 years of my life, I'm surprised how at home I feel here.If only you could spend a Saturday night in Death Valley in Anchorage

Anyone else who has lived/visited both places, I'd like to hear about things you noticed that makes these two seemingly opposite places, very similar.

I've lived/worked in both. Can't say I saw that many similarities. I did like downtown Anchorage, tended to avoid the Spenard area.

Anchorage was more like BR, with a rougher-around-the-edges, almost frontier feel to it.

Yes, I did not mention the crime rates in the OP but they're most certainly comparable.

If you're Alaska, you owe it to yourself to get the hell out of Los Anchorage.

I didn't see/feel many similarities except for the cajun music being played in the square. It's a very clean city or was, I liked that a lot.

I can't move away from Anc because I work here on base. However, my wife now works for the school district in Eagle River so we are looking at moving out of Anchorage and into Eagle River.

New Orleans had a secretary who said not to go the theater, while Anchorage's secretary said not to go to Dallas

Lotta meth and rape in Anchorage. It reminded me more of Shreveport-Bossier in size and military base located their.

Some are. And you definitely cannot call them Eskimos.

Good one

They're huge up here but still nowhere as bad as South La.
