So pretty much the same thing as University rankings?

I'd say the methodology is OK. The rankings appear to be fairly accurate. The schools that are supposed to be on top (Harvard, Yale, etc.) are on top.

But most law schools now are way overpriced at sticker, including all of the La. schools.

That's SOP for firms' summer programs. He'll probably be wined and dined a good bit too. While most firms' summer programs are not what they were before the recession, they still engage in pulling the wool over the summers' eyes and make the work seem somewhat glamorous.

Jesus. How much per week?

I'm an engineer I'll help you out with the math. It is likely in excess of $1,923.08 give or take a penny for rounding.

40% of the methodology = subjective surveys. And I think any idiot could rank the top 10/15

For sure.

and also try to plot your career course early.

Nebulous concept. I don't know when "early" is, but its pretty difficult to plot anything in this environment. You take whatever job is offered, because you can't afford to pass one up just because its outside of the area you thought you'd like to practice.

Also, for 90% of lawyers, the law you practice is going to suck, so take the damn job you can get because I can pretty much guarantee whatever area you think you'd like you'd hate, because law is hard.

I actually like my field though.

Try telling this to those going into the "sports law field" at TU

I have a buddy at Georgetown law (2L) who is bottom third there, had no legal internship last summer, and is still struggling to find an internship even with the state of Mississippi or Hancock or Harrison Counties on the Coast.

Think it's because they'd rather hire Ole Miss, MC, Loyola, LSU, etc. grads?

I'm gonna be making $500/week this summer

Well, that's understandable, because they're all going to be rich and famous sports agents.

Oh ya. The one field almost every male attorney in the country wants to get in, where there are only what, 100 teams at the highest professional level of the Big 4 sports.

Good luck

Yes. Also, Top 1/3 of a class at school A is always compared to top 1/3 of School B it seems by employers, even though we all know they aren't equal. Your friend, even at Georgetown, looks bad being at the bottom of his school.

They arent that hard to get, if your willing to work for free.

That could be part of the reason he isnt getting work this summer, he has no practical experience.

Maybe they are abit put off by GULC, and would rather hire a higher rated local graduate who is committed to stay in the area

I love law school employment numbers. If publicly traded issuers provided these types of numbers the SEC and Justice Department would come down hard. But I guess we have to keep those student loan dollars flowing.

Law schools across the country are being sued because of fraudulent employment numbers.

Its not even a maybe. Tulane can't even get into Mississippi because Tulane grads, when faced with working for a big MS firm in Jackson or one in New Orleans, pick N.O. 99% of the time. Employers gets burned by out of staters. Georgetown? Forget about it. Hell, I'd throw in the fact they hate the fact he is coming from such a good school as well. Inferiority complexes are not rare.

And again, he is bottom 1/3 at Georgetown. They hate that too. They'd rather plop in the top 10% from Ole Miss.

He is trying to come back to Mississippi.

He had a low GPA but made a 170 on the LSAT and ended up getting into Georgetown. I'm sure he'll be fine.
