As someone born (well, technically Lafayette) and raised in New Iberia, Scruffy confirms that it is a thing there.
It does exist in other places too though.
Scruffy isn't sure why it is only attributed to NI.

Having worked in New Iberia from 2003-2013, I can tell you it is a real thing...and them ole baws don't even realize that they have a NIH.
I brought it up jokingly to a couple of co-workers that had NIH's and they got all defensive.
