New Fresco in Pompeii

They are still excavating Pompeii (destroyed in 79 AD). They found a new fresco:
The painting depicts Cassandra (princess of Troy and daughter of Priam) being seduced by the God Apollo. Apollo told the old baw beside him "I'm gonna shoot my shot." He tried to get with Cassandra, but she told Apollo that since he wasn't quite 6'0 tall, she would pass. Apollo got pissed and put a curse on her.
Cassandra later predicted the Trojan war, but because of her curse, no one believed her and Troy got sacked. When the Greeks took Troy, they captured her, took her back to Mycenae and she became a slave of King Agamemnon.
Maybe I am wrong, but it looks like Apollo has a breed of peace sitting beside him.

Firstly, that is awesome and thanks for posting it.
Second, the breed is likely some type of Italian Mastiff. Also very peaceful.

As the Roman Empire once was, so we are now. As the Roman Empire now is, so we soon shall be.

quote:They are intentionally going very slowly. The idea is that it’s an utterly unique site, and excavation technology is constantly advancing. So, if they excavate all at once, we could forever “ruin” the site, even though it would sate immediate curiosity. But if we do a small segment at a time, over the course of decades, we likely don’t lose much, and we potentially leave portions pristine for when we have further developed technology.
I didn't know this. Good post.
