New campaign technique? - PM and friend request on Facebook

Out of the blue last night, I get a private message on FB and a friend request from some guy running for some office here in Ascension Parish (or maybe state office).
I don't know about you, but this is the fastest way to lose any interest (or vote) I may have for this guy.
BTW, it is Cointment (or something).

Never had that happen. Is he an acquaintance of yours, or of one of your FB contacts?

I have no idea who he is other than he is running for office. I just looked it up, he is running for Parish President.
The PM said he was in the neighborhood. I did find a flyer on door last night.

I've had it happen. It turned out i had met the guy at a function, so I added him. Then, he started hitting me up for campaign contributions. fricking weird

"Chris and Stacy, this is Clint Cointment, I was out canvassing your neighborhood, I'm sorry that I missed you, it is important for me to hear the concerns of the citizens of this Parish, I would like to add U to my friends, not only to keep up with the campaign, but an avenue for you to contact me. Never forget this is your Ascension Parish. Thanks Clint."

I've had current Facebook friends decide to run for office, and their page turns into nothing but campaign spam and tagging everyone in every post.

U the voter of Ascension Parish are the most important person in the Parish, regardless of what the biased liberal media might try to tell you otherwise, having more to do with the future of Ascension than anyone might otherwise believe simply because the past is written in stone and the present is a gift to us all but the future is unwritten but we can all effect change in it by going to the polls and electing me.
