and they are all shite ideas, that will require a tremendous amount of taxpayer subsidies (at least the tram and train) to break even.

So the premise of Broome's statement is that we can reduce traffic if more people will take public transportation. News flash: nobody wants to take freaking public transportation. The only way traffic will be fixed is a new MS River bridge in ascension. However, I'm sure that any traffic improvements will be routed to north baton rouge for "economic development." Whatever.

I think that's the quickest thing they could do that would help considerably. A loop is probably 20 years away, at best.

Why not just stack the interstate? Add a second level.

This seems to work very well in San Antonio.

"Trains, trams and Zipcars must be embraced as a components to a comprehensive transportation agenda that includes all corners of the city," Broome said.

And how does that fix the problem of a major east-west interstate going to 1 lane?

She's also developing a secret committee to study a new form of transportation she saw.

NBR would do well to receive a major infrastructure investment. You want to eliminate the NBR development black hole, create an attractive alternative to what is driving the flight to the suburbs.

NBR is a short drive from large employers and most neighborhoods are open grid. All it would take is some real investments such as a Northern loop/raised airline expressway to begin the process of revitalizing NBR.

But Ascension could use some major investments on HWY 30, 42, and 74 as well. A new MS bridge where 74/30/River Road meet would be ideal too.

White Castle would work, I always thought they should build an interstate spur from Morgan City to I-10 near Rosedale and tie in to I-10 again near Gonzales. Would give a southern bypass to BR and allow trucking an easier access to the coast.

But here is the thing, Broome is the mayor now and she will have to decide if she wants to continue to sink EBR resources into the train to NO, and the Tram along Nicholson.

The train will require local train stations, parking, and bus service. That isn't free and already local tax dollars have been committed to studying what needs to be done and what needs to be built.

The Tram is even more problematical because it will require 75 million in local dollars plus local dollars to operate. Local funds have already been committed to the project, and the new mayor will have to decide how to fund the parish's portion. A new tax will likely have to be floated.

Yes Kip got the ball rolling, but Broome has to push things to completion, and with Edwards fighting for new state taxes, locals having to pay new taxes to CATS and to the COA and higher state sales taxes, and perhaps another run at Green Light II; Broome will have her work cut out for her.
