I have an older geothermal heat pump and I was wondering if anyone had any insight. My existing thermostat is possessed and keeps going back to a program the previous owners of the house used and even Honeywell tech support can't figure it out. They liked it much warmer than we do.

There are entire threads dedicated to this on the Tech board. Just FYI. You'll get better responses there.

Ecobee supports geothermal. Do you have a C wire? It makes installing these smart thermostats much easier.

Does the nest have a humidity sensor? Or can you add it? Living in Louisiana, that is all I want is a thermostat that will kick the A/C on just to drop the humidity regardless of the temp, especially in the middle of a weird winter like we are having now.

no, these thermostats are supposed to be smart but they are actually dumb.

I did find a guy that wrote a script that works with the smart things hub and the ecobee that would do this, but I havent seen where this is a built in function.

CAD says this is not possible. Honeywell is flawless.

Can they automatically switch between AC and heat automatically?

Left my thermostat on AC with a program to hold at 85 while I was out of town last week. Got a little nervous when the hard freeze hit. Luckily nothing froze, but it was very cold in my home when I returned.

If you had an ecobee, you could have checked the temp and/or changed the settings from your phone

Not sure about nest, but the ecobee has a humidity sensor. It even has it on the lite version. I am not sure you can trigger it on the humidity alone though, haven't tried. I know you can feed the info into other devices like humidifiers/dehumidifier to do the job though.

The ecobee can be put in auto switch mode or you can leave it on heat or cold only as well.

Yes it does. And you can enable an feature that will automatically kick on the AC if humidity goes above 70%

Yes it can. They have Heat mode. Cool mode. And Heat/Cool mode where you set an upper and lower temperature setpoint.

he said his existing thermo is a honeywell and is having problems and wants to know if a nest would fix them.
