Going shopping for a shite load of furniture. What can I expect in terms of ability to negotiate?

I plan on buying 2 living room sets, some outdoor furniture and some occasional pieces. I also plan on paying in cash/debit.

I will be going to hurwitz mintz, doerr and comeaux if anyone has specific experiences at these places they would like to share.

I don't know specific furniture places, but if it's a national chain then you can't negotiate. If it's privately owned and local, then you probably can. If you're buying multiple pieces you have a better chance of being able to negotiate effectively. And if you're dealing with a commissioned salesman, then you definitely should negotiate. Anyone on commission should be able to cut your prices back in exchange for you buying multiple pieces of furniture

We bought furniture earlier this year. It was originally going to be about $900 and told him we had $600 to spend. Ended up paying $650 for entertainment center and coffee table.

Negotiate like Iran - yell, scream, and say it's not worth half the sticker price but you'll pay half because you feel generous.

We have not bought furniture in years but we buy everything from Haverty's and they will negotiate a little and match prices where they can. We bought ourselves a S&F mattress this month and negotiated 300.00 of the already pretty good sale price and got them to deliver it for free which is usually 169.00.

What are you asking?

What do you want?

What will you take?

Must be talking to a decision maker within the store.

And never "pitch the bitch.". It is a waste of time. Find the manager.

You can always negotiate anything. Even an immediate no is still a negotiation.

When buying a sofa, chair, or mattress, I'll often sit down to try it and then "accidentally" pee myself. I then apologize and offer to pay for the item with the cash I have in my pocket. Try it.

Ask for 25% off and go from there. Will likely end around 12-15% off if you are spending that much

Bought a ton from Ashley, like $7k. Salesman gave 25% without going to manager. Matched and beat internet on everything, including delivery and setup. Had some $400 chairs come up in his computer as $175, he gave them to me for that. Got a $6k floor model leather sofa and love seat for $1600.
Great American Home Store did 10% off for cash purchase.
They will deal.
