Good evening,

We live in Houston and don't known full details related to New Orleans area lock downs.

My wife's grandfather in passing away tonight or tomorrow ( not covid based ) and she can't find out if visitors are allowed for a final visit?

Are ICU's & very critical care rooms/treatment floors shut down?

Does she have any chance to see him or is it an unfortunate situation?

From what I've heard, nobody is allowed in hospitals that isn't a patient.

I’d suggest calling to ask. Everywhere is different and you won’t likely get a 100% accurate answer here

I’ve read that compassionate visits are offered for things dying but I can’t say if it is in Nola.

Prayers for your family and safe travels if you guys head this way.

Some hospitals are allowing visitation for dying patients.

We have a more open policy for dying patients in our facility.

Probably just an unfortunate situation. But call the hospital to confirm.

I can confirm this. Had a young (< 21 y/o) family member go to the hospital for an emergency surgery this week. The parents were not allowed in the building.

LouisianaLady,

Thanks!

She has tried to call and ask but they have been very rude and awful.

I sort of figured it would be bad news and I'm sure my father in law will be able to better explain it to her. I'll just be able to support.

Thanks for the very fast response.

soccerfüt estimates Scruffy to be a worthy medico.

Thanks for what you are doing. Sincerely.

Thanks to everyone else for the responses, it means a great deal.

All I can offer to you all in return is below average running advice in the Health/Fitness running thread or a hearty thank you.

Apparently, odds will work against her because of a potential question on entry questionnaires..She is a physician assistant, still working in a clinic, and has came into contact with positive covid patients although her test was negative.

The one decent administration she spoke to said unfortunately, the positive contacts outweigh the negative test.

Thanks again for all of the responses, really.

The hospital I work at is allowing one visitor max for an end of life situation, and it's not even close to as bad here as in NOLA.

I would think you are probably in an unfortunate situation.

That’s absolutely rough and I feel for her, hopefully she can see him one last time, call the hospital and explain the situation. If they don’t allow visitors ask if they could set up a FaceTime chat or something like that so she can say goodbye.

Are they doing any transfers to the local hospice house if he's not COVID?

I believe the LCMC hospitals are allowing one visitor per patient in an end of life situation.

My wife works at a local hospital in New Orleans. She says only one visitor allowed per day.
