Trying to switch from electric heat to gas heat before winter. Any suggestion on potential contractors?

poly pipe is used underground for gas lines, it is not allowed to be exposed. black iron is typically used for exposed pipe or piping above grade/slab. trac pipe/gastite is used in attics, walls, etc.

call a plumber.

edit: city only installs lines underground, poly pipe will pretty much last forever under the ground, which is why they use it, and they call pull/push it when they need to bore across highways, etc.

Dillpickle actually ran his own gas line for a bbq pit. Not sure about permits for that versus heating a house and such but you may wanna ask him for input.

Installing gas lines for a homeowner is a no-no and you would not want that liability. Call a plumber and make sure he pulls a permit.

They use a flexible yellow pipe now.

It's called corrugated Stainless Tubing, and you need to run a tracer wire with it.

Used inside and underground. It goes to iron pipe above ground.

Just an FYI...the going rate for a plumber to install an underground gas line is about $25 per linear foot.

I saw anotherposter mentioned a tracer. If you do trac pipe it must be bonded to your electrical panel. That means one continous ground wire that is jumped and clamped from fitting to fitting.

FYI your gas company has to run the gas line from the main to your meter.....you need to run the line into the house.

You need to see what your local building code calls for on residential gas piping. I believe it's usually painted steel pipe outside...no galvanized because the galvanizing flakes off internally

Any clue what the rate is if the line is already in the house? I have a gas water heater and looks like the line is going to the heater as well...
I'll be getting a new gas range put in a couple weeks. Have a guy coming give me an estimate next week on that.
