What are some interesting projects that a 5th grade boy could do? He likes sports, all the ones he's come up with relating to sports ( baseball) have to many variables to get an accurate result.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Use all those balls to represent a planet in our solar system.

The big yellow one's the sun.

Get him to bounce a bunch of different sports balls from an equal height and measure the elasticity and bounce of each.
Make the variable being different surfaces the ball can bounce from.

Get small plants. 5 or 6 of the same type. Water them with different things. Water, Beer, Cooking Oil, Milk, etc...

Record, take pics, etc... how each affects the growth. Got me an A back in the day.

I pretty much nailed "Will plants grow in the dark?" In Mrs McKinneny's class. 9th grade. It's prolly still in my mom and dads attic somewhere

Hand eye coordination when drunk. Have him throw you some fastballs and see how many you miss. Then Get smashed and have him throw you some pitches, and make sure you video it and post it here.

Science fairs were some of the most useless time consuming shite ever. One out of a million was a decent idea. The rest is glu and tri-board. Go with the negative effect of coca cola on various objects

If you put an egg in vinegar, it eats away at the shell and leaves a see through membrane.

Then you can put it in water or corn syrup to study the affects of osmosis.

Scruffy did that one in elementary.

Would any of these be doable? Science Buddies Science Fair Projects (Sports) The Biomechanics of Pitching one about halfway down the page seems interesting.
