Need OT mechanics help. 2004 Chevy Tahoe keeps dying/losing power

Last week alajones2 leaves the key in the ACC position and goes inside a building for an hour and a half. She comes out, battery is dead, I jump her off.
Next day, try to start truck, battery is still dead. I jump it off, it drives just fine on an 80 mile one way trip. Stop for gas, has to be jumped off again, I'm thinking "great, battery has been killed". Still drives just fine after jump.
Now I got a new battery, according to Autozone it's the same size and 700 CCA as my other one, but the truck is now losing power. The A/C isn't functioning and it keeps dying while being driven. The battery that was replaced was noticeably swollen (could be a red herring).
ETA : Old battery was swollen, not the new one.
Any ideas? Ignition, Alternator, wrong battery? Why would it start dying now and not before?

Probably a bad alternator

Autozone is pretty damn good about returns. I'd take it back, tell the issues and show them the swollen battery. Likely a bad battery, possibly an alternator that's going bad or the battery issue is not allowing charging.

Autozone can test the battery for free. I'd bring it there first. If their battery diagnostic machine shows a bad battery, they should replace it for free since you just bought it. If its not a bad battery, then the alternator would be the likely issue.

Sorry for poor wording, old battery was swollen, not the new one.
I'll try replacing battery first.

is the battery voltage above 13 volts when running?
If no, bad alternator

Autozone has a way to test your alternator for you.

Get the alternator tested . its a 04 , so is it original to the truck ? If so , probably time to replace.
If its not the alternator , and its not the battery , check fuses . If its not any of those things , quit being cheap and by a new car (sarcasm)

Alternator is bad if I had to guess

I would think most people would have a simple voltage meter.
Set it to DC and test with engine running. Voltage higher than 12 it's charging and the alternator is good, lower than 12 and it's discharging and the alternator is bad.

Yeah, I'm going to go with alternator as well.

Hold on, although I am pretty sure I don't have a pos 2004 model automobile in my fleet, I'll go ahead and ask my lead mechanic and get back to you.

Two problems:
1. Alternator
2. Wife

Sent my Fluke w/ my son to La Tech. He’s in engineering.
Voltage on the instrument cluster fluctuates between 14.4 and 9 when running.

Whoa! Whoa! Let's not jump to conclusions on #2. Need pics to properly analyze.
