Maybe this is the wrong forum but I trust someone here can give me some hints.
My buddy and I have been metal detecting an old yard where he found a WWI Victory medal. Stenciled/stamped on the edge is 190168 PTE D.H.McPherson 4-C.M.R.
Not sure I got the spacing exactly right but he'd like to identify the guy and maybe track down the family. From what I read the recipient's name, rank, service number and unit were impressed on the edge of the medal.
Anyone able to tell me how best to track this family d own?

Wow. That's an awesome find and this thread has some serious potential.
I'm of no help, but may WWII Collector or Antique Tiger can get you pointed in the right direction.

Postimage is easy to use if you don’t know how to post pictures, I’d really like to see this medal.

4th Canadian mounted rifles might be what the cmr stands for.

Awesome find, and good on y'all for trying to locate the owner.

190168 would be the regiment number.
Fairly confident he was a Canadian military man, 4th brigade. Google search picked up a few things.

God bless the internet, the fact you were able to find that information that quick is still mind boggling to me.

I'm not smart enough to do pics (southern Ohio), but if you punch in Victory Medal (United Kingdom) in Wikipedia you'll see the exact medal. I copied this from the article ....
The obverse shows the winged, full-length, full-front, figure of 'Victory' (or 'Victoria') with her left arm extended and holding a palm branch in her right hand,[7] similar to the statue surmounting the Queen Victoria Memorial, in front of Buckingham Palace in London.
The reverse has the words "THE GREAT / WAR FOR / CIVILISATION / 1914–1919" in four lines, all surrounded by a laurel wreath.[7]

Did y’all think something might be on the property, or was this just happenstance?
