I feel like there is confusion in this thread between a garbage disposal and trash compactor.

Unless you live in an apartment, high-rise, or condo you need a compost pile instead.

Get one like the Flintstones had. Looked strong enough. And you could butcher it up for food if it ever stopped working.

I put in the 1hp waste king for my son and also for my sister. They are a beast! They will chew up anything in them.

Insinkerator Evolution Premier is what we upgraded to when we redid our kitchen several years ago. It is unbelievably quiet and powerful (3/4 hp). Standing right over it, you can hardly hear it running.
