I’m filling out a personal contents spreadsheet for a FEMA insurance claim from Harvey. Any advice would be appreciated, I have over 800 entries and getting the age and prices are getting to be a daunting task.

Type quickly. Haven't you heard? The federal government is out of money.

If you don't know, Google the items. That's what the adjusters do.

What they usually get folks for is claiming stuff they never had.

Remember FEMA only replaces what is necessary to make your home liveable. By that I mean if you have three tv's they will pay for one like a 42". The are not "contents" coverage by any means and if you have no contents coverage, your next option is an SBA loan if you qualify.

I have pictures of everything, just no clue on the ages. And that’s critical if they depreciate the items.

Is this for FEMA Individual Assistance or NFIP/Flood Insurance?

You'll certainly need to find an elite FEMA consultant. Wish I could help.

I had flood insurance for Katrina and turned in an itemized list to the adjuster with depreciated prices. They called me after reviewing it and told me not to depreciate anything; that’s their job.

So I did what they asked. Turned out they didn’t depreciate anything. I got full price for all of the lost contents.

Edit: Also, if your garage slab is lower than the house, nothing in there is covered. So the adjuster that came to the house pointed at everything in my garage and said “None of that was in the garage when the storm hit, understand?”
