Calm down. You'll get your rainbow panties in a twist. Not everyone carries pom poms and cheers for butt pluggers

IIRC he was actually a Navy veteran, so it's not totally random, although I agree there are a lot more deserving candidates.

Progressives don't mind when gays do that, unless the gay is a priest in which case they feign outrage in order to attack the Church.

The Navy jokes will never go away

"Men, the naming of that ship USS Harvey Milk means gay Navy jokes for the next five hundred years".

I'm pretty sure former Secretary of the Navy James Forrestal said that. It's what we fight for

Imagine society being based around natural law. Marriage wasn't instituted for two men. Nobody even contemplated it until a few years ago because it doesn't make sense. It's not necessary for the expression of love. The lack of marriage isn't why gays were unfulfilled. Y'all won the culture war. Now you get to watch the culture die, and you'll still find "bigots" to blame your troubles on, right up until the pendulum swings all the way back to the other side and gays are being thrown off of buildings in the west like they already are in the ME.

BOOM

ETA: I'm Navy and don't agree with this naming...but it is just a supply ship...only time we care about those or even think about their purpose is when we need gas, food, or mail.....now if they had named a DDG after some homo politician it would really get me pissed....

Meh.... I'm ok with it. The navy has a long history of gay men as sailors.

This is the reason morale is low in the military and why good servicemen do not reenlist.

The Navy naming a ship after a gay man is why the military can't retain its people?

At first glance, Darth, it seems stupid. But . . .

Milk was a naval officer. He was from a "Navy family". This line of logistical ships will all be named for "civil rights leaders". Milk was a very important pioneer in the area of civil rights for people like him.

This is OK. Milk may be judged by history to be the most important "Gay Rights" civil rights figure in history.

Dan White was in the 101st Airborne in Vietnam. If he saw some heavy combat action, he very likely had some PTSD issues that were unresolved and bothering him. There was almost no treatment for PTSD back then, it was not recognized. Back then, society and the dominant culture told us that all Nam vets were unstable killers -- nobody wondered why and the VA had no real program to address the problem. None of this excuses what he did, he should have served life in prison.

But, it is sobering to realize how much many of our vets are suffering in silence.

how quick before the Sailors just repaint another name on the ship?
