Major carmakers experimented with HUD's a decade ago but for whatever reason didn't go through with it.

I'm sure the law enforcement community was concerned about distractions while driving. I mean, its not like we dont fly million dollar airplanes with HUDs.

I have no basis in fact for that assumption.

Actually quite a few European auto makers offer it as an option. I have a HUD in my car and I rarely ever look at the speedo, the Nav screen, or the radio because everything can be viewed and controlled on the HUD.

You don't have to worry about kids jumping out from behind parked cars at 30,000 ft.

When I had my corvette, the HUD was one of the greatest features. I cannot believe all cars don't have it. No looking down for anything. It displayed speed, rpms, radio station, driving directions.

You do know there are quite a few cars with HUD as an option right?

I loved it on my 04 Corvette also. Hands down the best feature. As far I as I know, it's still offered on Corvettes and I believe certain Cadillacs.

If it works better than mounting my phone to the dash for GPS I'd use it

No, because they did go through with it. Not sure where he got the idea that they didn't.
