and the chances that he gets the full 37 years is almost zero

his OWN SON turned him in.

he knew his dad had lost it and was targeting and raging against cyclists on the trace.

1. it wasn't an accident.

guy didn't leave his house saying i am going to run over a cyclist today....his temper got the best of him and road rage happens daily with vehicles.

2. he hit and ran

happens everyday

quote:

3. he destroyed evidence after he deliberately assaulted the cyclist with a deadly weapon.

once again it happens everyday

4. he lied to investigators.

also happens everyday

Do you have a link that can provide insight into what was going through his mind or is your post conjecture?

This could just as easily be a case of a panicked driver after an accident as a case of road rage or impaired driving.

He supposedly has had trouble with alcoholism in the past. I believe he has been in and out of rehab treatment a couple of times.

I wonder if he was intoxicated during the incident?

he didn't even come up with a valid reason for being out on the trace at 10am on a saturday morning. just claimed he went to 'enjoy the park'. right.

Why were the cyclists out there at 10 a.m. on a Saturday?

No, but some self righteous balls of rage in tights want him imprisoned the rest of his life.

As I mentioned earlier, he's known to have had a history battling alcoholism.

I wonder if he was drunk at the time of the accident.

I tend to drive with the mindset that at least 1/2 of the people on the road are either intoxicated or not paying attention.

Any drunk driving arrests in this guy's past?

If State maybe, being federal no way in hell he only does 2-3 years. I do not care what you think of cyclist, you do not want to assault one in a National Park.

Does this only apply to cyclists? If he had stopped and assaulted a pedestrian with a hammer would he be facing 37 yrs? Or do the feds have some special laws for cyclists only?
