Hope he gets all 37 years.
Hit and run, lie, destroy evidence, then think you can generate sympathy by making up a stupid arse story.
Oh what a wicked web we weave when first we practice to deceive...

Marshall Grant Neely III, 58, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, providing a false statement to a federal agent and destruction of evidence. The charges carry a maximum prison sentence of 37 years.

The indictment alleges that Neely’s son went to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Department and reported the SUV that struck the bicyclist belonged to his father because he recognized the stickers on the back.
Neely is accused of removing the stickers from the SUV before troopers arrived at his home.
quote:
Officers reportedly found Neely unconscious on the floor of his home. After he was woken up, Neely said the bicyclist threw his bicycle at him, according to the indictment.
quote:
Neely claimed in an interview with News 2, “I did not see the gentleman that I hit. He just kind of came from nowhere. I didn’t know I hit him.”
Oh what a wicked web we weave when first we practice to deceive...

That is a very odd story ... after the fact.

I don't feel bad for either one.
frick the douchebag cyclist riding side by side going into a turn where it's a double yellow line.
The guy who hit him is just as big of a douche. And I don't feel bad for him getting arrested.
Whole situation could have been avoided if the douchebag cyclist was riding in a single file line.
To recap, both are giant douche bags. And both deserve what happened to them respectively

He wasn't doing anything illegal. Cyclist on the Trace can use the entire lane.

I didn't say what he was doing was illegal. I said he was being a douchebag. And he was. Wanna ride your toy in the road? Fine. Don't be a giant douche lord and ride in the middle of the road. Hug the shoulder where your slow arse belongs.

The reason cyclists ride in the middle of the lane is to force the car to wait until there's room to pass. It's for their protection.
If they ride on the line and a car overtakes them while a car passes from the other direction the cyclist will get squeezed off the road.
Top lane the white vehicle must wait until it's safe to pass. Bottom lane they are simply squeezing the cyclist against the side of the road which is fricking dangerous:
Riding 2 or 3 abreast instead of a long line means the cyclists take up less room (vertically) on the road, allowing you to pass them quicker.
Down vote away.

nothing says I'm all about safety like riding a 10 lb bike going 15-20 mph down a road where you know vehicles that weigh 1000+ lbs going 45+ mph mere feet away.

No. What's dangerous is riding a toy down a road occupied by vehicles that weigh exponentially more, who travel at a much higher rate and expect the world to revolve around your slow arse.

There are no shoulders on the Trace. It's a scenic bi-way. It's a little different than normal roadways. Slow down, quit raging and enjoy the ride.

Deal With It

excuse me. Talking about vehicles on a road dwi instantly harks to driving while intoxicated, not deal with it. Simple misunderstanding
But hey. Just because it's legal doesn't mean it's smart. It's legal for me to walk down plank road at 2am bumping David Allen Coe... But I don't think that would be a smart idea. Now would it?
Kinda like riding a 10 pound toy with 1000+ pound cars and trucks flying by feet away. But hey, self preservation and common sense ain't for everyone

Right, I get that it's a federal hwy, didn't know the Feds investigated traffic incidents.
